Summer Transfers

Summer Transfers

The Premier League has been fascinating over the summer with some major deals taking place. Within this blog we will look at every team and how they shape for the summer following the transfer window so far!

Arsenal

Arsenal have done some of the most impressive signings so far, not only in the premier league but also in Europe. They have brought in Kai Havertz who many might not rate after his time in Chelsea. However, many people will remember his time at Bayer Leverkusen where he was electric and will hope to regain this form with Arsenal.

They have also brought in a young Netherlands defender called Jurrien Timber from Ajax in deal worth in the region of £38m; Timber, who signs on a five-year deal, is a product of the Ajax academy and made 160 appearances for the club before moving to north London to join Mikel Arteta's side.

The biggest deal of the transfer window so far is Declan Rice. The holding midfielder who was captain of West Ham signed for Arsenal in a deal worth up to 120 million. This signing could change Arsenal from a title challenger to a title winner. He is renowned as one of the best midfielders in the league, now playing for one of the best teams in the league.

All these signings for Arsenal are all young and should fit Arteta's style perfectly. We might not see many more incomings for the Gunners as they have moved quick and smoothly to get all these deals done early.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa have again made some excellent signings with few outgoings. They have signed highly sought after Youri Tielemans. The Belgium has played at the highest level throughout his career, with Anderlecht and Monaco among his former clubs, and he has most recently played in the Premier League at Leicester City, where his goal helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.

They have also signed defender Pau Torres for a deal worth 35 million. A product of the Spanish club’s youth system, Torres has made more than 170 appearances for Villarreal and was part of Spain’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Spaniard will be reunited under Emery, and he will hope to have the same success at Aston Villa.

The main transfer news for Aston Villa is the signing of Mousa Diaby who has been highly impressive for Bayer Leverkusen over the last few years.

The 24-year-old winger joins Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee and has already linked up with his new team-mates on their tour of the United States.

Diaby, who has 10 international caps for France, started his career with hometown club, Paris Saint-Germain, graduating from the youth ranks into the first team.

Since joining Leverkusen in 2019, his performances for the Bundesliga side both domestically and in the Champions League and Europa League had caught the eye of several clubs around Europe. He finished last season with 14 goals to his name in all competitions. His rapid pace, small build and wicked left foot is very similar to former Netherlands legend Robben. If he can play in similar form to his success at Leverkusen, Villa might have a serious player on their hands.

Quiet Bournemouth and Brentford

Bournemouth having not got too many deals so far. They invested quite heavily into the new boss Andoni Iraola. They have signed a handful of players including Hamad Traore, Milos Kerkez and Romain Faivre. These are all promising signings for the future but not any standout players you can see setting the world alight.

Brentford have signed a lot of youth players including Romeo Beckham who played for Inter Miami. They have however, signed Wolves defender Nathan Collins who could be a perfect fit for Brentford's back 3 tactics that were such a success last year.

Brighton

The Seagulls have been renowned for their top-quality recruitment in recent years. They have had some major outgoings the most noticeable being World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister. Caicedo has also been linked with a huge money move away to Chelsea for a rumoured 80 million; this has yet to come into agreement.

Brighton have signed veteran midfielder James Milner to help guide the amazing talent Brighton have at their disposable. They have also signed experienced midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud from Dortmund. Finally, they have signed talented striker Joao Pedro from Watford. The Brazilian striker impressed for the last few seasons in a struggling side. With some consistency in a well-run Brighton side all these signings could be a master stroke.

Burnley

Burnley have made a lot of signings the main being James Trafford from Manchester City. The clarets men who recently got promoted from the Championship have decided to invest heavily in the young goalkeeper who didnt concede a goal in the Euro U21 Championship triumph. They have also signed Leyton Orient goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux who may be loaned out.

O’Shea joins the club on a four-year deal - keeping him at Turf Moor until at least 2027. The Dublin-born defender played over a hundred times for the Baggies, including their 2020/21 season in the Premier League. On signing for the club O’Shea said: “It feels great to be here and I really cannot wait to get going.

Chelsea

The American owner Todd Todd Boehly has sold and brought in vast number of players. His method of bringing in countless young talents on eight-year contracts has huge benefits but also potential disastrous consequences.

Paying transfer fees over eight years will obviously split up the cost for the transfer. However, if a transfer target does not appear successful and refuses to leave, they could be on the books with high wages for a period that no club desires.

Just this summer they have sold or loaned out at least 15 players. Bringing in eight players and only one of those is a recognised senior player being Nkunku. They have brought in a lot of money from clubs in Saudi and a few major clubs in the Premier League.

Chelsea have kept the senior players they believe that can be a huge asset for them. They have brought in some young talents to ensure that the club has a bright and promising future. Like previously mentioned there is nothing wrong signings a lot of young players, it is the long eight-year contracts that is a huge worry for the Chelsea fans.

Crystal Palace

There is not much to write home about on Palace, they have made one signing being Jefferson Lerma. This is a promising signing for their midfielders, but Palace fans will be worried with the lack of transfers coming in. A major outgoing is star man Zaha who has left the club to play Champions League in Turkey. Young star Olise has also been heavily linked with numerous elite clubs.

Everton

Everton have once again not done enough so far in the window. Signing nobody for money, only free transfers. They have brought in veteran defender Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma on for a season. Danjuma has been a critical signings for the blues as they needed some pace in the attacking areas and this is what the Dutch winger will bring. They will hope to do a lot more of they want to climb up the table next season.

Fulham

Fulham had a very good year; they were heavily reliant on Serbian striker Mitrovic for the goals last year. He has been heavily linked with a big move away to Saudi Arabia, so they have decided to sign Wolves and Mexican international Raul Jimenez. Fulham have a strong squad and will hope to keep a large majority of their players if they want to have success again next year.

Liverpool have experienced a lot of outgoings and there is still expected be some more. With the likes of Milner, Keita Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all being released. Henderson and Fabinho are expected to follow. Liverpool have made two major signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, they will hope this brings a more youthful and energetic midfield. If more do leave, they are expected to make some more signings as they would lose all their senior midfield players.

Luton Town

Luton have been very realistic about the signings they are making. They are hoping for the team that brought them success last year will try to do the same this year. They have brought in the likes of Tahith Chong, Mads Andersen, Chiedozie Ogbene, Marvelous Nakamba. All these signings look to very solid; it is a good transfer policy for Luton as they are expected to go down but even if they do; they will have a team to compete to the highest standard in the championship.

Manchester City

City have been quiet so far this window. Out of any team in the world Manchester City are the only ones who can afford to sign nobody but, in this case, just the one.

Mateo Kovacic was at Chelsea for numerous seasons and was by many understood to be underrated. Pep does not just buy anybody, and he clearly sees an overwhelming talent in Kovacic.

It is also a special mention to the outgoings as they have sold many youth prospects to clubs around Europe. This may seem presumptuous to sell them so early however, in all cases they have a clause in the contract that offers a buy back option.

Manchester United

Teams scrambling for Goalkeepers has been a common theme this transfer window. The main story was with Manchester United as everybody was left wondering if goalkeeping legend David De Gea would sign a new contract.

Just a few weeks ago Manchester United ripped up the contract offer and De Gea, this led to huge controversy about how the Manchester United higher achy treated such a loyal servant for the club.

This then led to De Gea without a club and more importantly so were United. This then led to a frantic scramble to try and secure an elite goalkeeper. One name that kept reoccurring was Onana.

This has led to a transfer fee being agreed for around 50 million and Manchester United now have a new number 1!

Another incoming for Ten Hag is former Chelsea star Mason Mount. The England man has not been as influential last year although, few Chelsea players did themselves proud last year.

Mason Mount only had one year left of his contract, this led to many bids being rejected as they could not agree on the value. United offered a final deal and Chelsea felt compelled to accept otherwise he would have left on a free next year.

Another huge moment this summer as Harry Maguire has been stripped from his captaincy. This has led to huge transfer rumours that Maguire will be moving to sides such as Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs and many more clubs.

These are just rumours at this minute however, you cannot see past Maguire moving to try and get some first team football ahead of the Euro's next summer.

Newcastle United

The Saudi owned club are the richest club in the Premier League by some distance. They have not splashed the cash due to restrictions on financial fair play.

They made two major signings being Tonali the AC Milan young midfielder who was influential in their success in previous years. They have also signed former premier league winger Ashley Barnes. This could be an ideal signing who has already been proven in this league and has many strengths to bring to Eddie Howes men.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have been a lot quieter this transfer window than the previous summer. This was not hard as they signed a bucket load of players last year to try and ensure their survival.

This was a success as they narrowly avoided the drop. They have now decided to release a lot of those players from whom they feel they could move on.

They have signed Chris Wood from Newcastle and talented forward Elanga from Manchester United.

Sheffield United

They are not doing much this window with no signings noticeable for most of our readers. Anis Slimane, Yasser Larouci, Benie Traore are the three players they have brought in.

They are hoping they can keep some of the major players who got them promoted including Ndiaye who was influential for them last year. He has been heavily linked with a move away, Sheffield will hope this is not the case.

Tottenham Hotspur

Dejan Kulusevski loan move has been made permanent from Juventus which is a real coup for Spurs.

They have also signed James Maddison who was a key figure in the premier league last season. His creativity could really help the spurs front line next year.

The main talking point for them this year has been star striker Harry Kane who is under surveillance by Bayern Munich who want to sign the England Captain at all costs; the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement.

West Ham

They have yet to sign a replacement for Declan Rice. They have been very active in trying to find a midfielder, they are after Southampton captain James Ward Prowse.

This could be a good replacement but whoever they sign, it would be a monumental task to replace Rice.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves are under huge threat from financial fair play and have released and sold many major players.

They are yet to sign anybody and look in real danger to be stuck down the wrong end of the league next season.
