Spiralball otherwise known as Spike ball or round net, is a fun and active outdoor game that involves hitting a small ball with your hands to bounce it off a small net set at ankle level. This game has gained popularity for its fast-paced and competitive nature.

History

The craze of Spike/Spiralball has made a lot of people believe that this game was recently invented. What many people don’t know is that the game has been around for many years but has recently been developed into a game we all play and love.

It was actually invented in the late 1980s by Jeff Knurek and his friends in the United States. The game was initially played with a small rubber ball and a circular net that was set at ankle level, similar to how it's played today. However, it wasn't widely known or played until several years later.

Spike ball (Spiralball) gained more popularity in the 2000s when Chris Ruder, inspired by the game he played during a vacation in Hawaii, decided to turn it into a commercial product.

Since then, Spike/Spiralball ball has grown into a widely recognized sport with organized leagues and competitive tournaments, making it a popular recreational activity in many parts of the world.

How To Play Spiralball

  1. Objective: The objective of SpiralBall is to score points by making the opposing team fail to return the ball. This is achieved by hitting the ball in such a way that it bounces off the net and is challenging for the other team to control and return.
  2. Teams: Spiralball is typically played with two teams of two players each, but variations exist for larger groups. Each team stands on opposite sides of the net and takes turns serving and returning the ball.
  3. Serving: The game begins with a serve from one team to the other. A player serves by hitting the ball onto the net to bounce it toward the opposing team. The receiving team then has up to three hits to return the ball.
  4. Scoring: Points are scored when a team fails to return the ball, causing it to hit the ground or touch the net. The game is typically played to a set number of points, often 21, 25, or 11, depending on the agreed-upon rules. Teams must win by at least two points.
  5. Rotation: After each point is scored, teams switch sides, and the player who served the last point on the losing team serves the next point.
  6. Rules: Players must stay within their designated playing area, and they can move in any direction to return the ball. The ball must be hit with open hands, and players are not allowed to catch or carry the ball.

Spiralball has become a popular recreational and competitive sport with organized leagues and tournaments. It requires agility, teamwork, and hand-eye coordination and is often played at picnics, beaches, parks, and other outdoor settings. The game's accessibility and fun factor have contributed to its widespread appeal.
