Guide to the Women's Super League

For the past three season’s Chelsea have dominated the Women’s Super League winning three titles in a row! With stars such as Lauren James, Sam Kerr and Millie Bright they are always going to be strong title contenders. They have started the league well again this year winning 3 and drawing one, they currently sit second in the league on goal difference. Chelsea know how to get over the line and are the most successful team in WSL history, its going to take some doing to take the throne off them!

However, this year there are some strong contenders with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Manchester City have made a flying start to the league, only conceding one goal all season to a last gasp equaliser to current champions Chelsea. Manchester City’s defence looks solid and with a stylish way of playing they will hope to finally lift the beloved WSL title. With the likes of Chloe Kelly and Bunny Shaw they could cause problems for any defence! Manchester City have dominated every game they have played apart from Chelsea, that was due to them being down to 9 players and they still nearly pulled off a miraculous win!

Arsenal are the most decorated club in all English competitions and will hope to regain their dominance in English Football. Arsenal have not started the season as well as they would of liked however, they are still a serious contenders for the title. With the likes of Alessia Russo upfront they can achieve anything and no team will feel safe against Arsenal when they hit form. Beth Mead has also returned after a horrific injury which led to her missing the World Cup. This is a huge boost for Arsenal! At the moment they are conceding to many goals, once they sort this they can climb up the table and challenge their London rivals.

Manchester United have done relatively well since forming in 2018. The club has funded Manchester United so they can start performing on a competitive stage straight away. They will hope they can carry on with the positive trajectory and start to challenge for the top prize. They might be a few years of this just yet due to the loss of Russo to Arsenal but they still have a lot of quality in the squad!
